Sacramento Catholic Diocese to begin Lent service outside

The Sacramento Catholic Diocese said it will begin outdoor Lent service on the south steps of the state Capitol for Ash Wednesday starting at 8:30 a.m. Today is Fat Tuesday, a long-standing tradition of the Catholic Church that marks the last day before the start of Lent. Mardi Gras celebrations also begin Tuesday in the city of New Orleans on Fat Tuesday, although, celebrations look much different this year given the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Bishop Jaime Soto will preside over the outdoor Lent service and will celebrate Mass at 12:10 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament located at 11th and K streets downtown.
