Strong offshore winds are expected to hit the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday, and the National Weather Service warns of fallen branches and power outages. These winds are not expected to be as strong as those that girdled the region in mid-January.

“The peak winds look like they’re coming in late afternoon, 4 or 5 pm. Then we’ll see them really crank,” said Matt Mehle, a forecaster for the weather service. “They’ll go on all night and fade at midnight to Thursday sunrise.”

The harshest conditions are forecast for the East Bay Hills and North Bay Mountains, where occasional gusts of up to 55 miles per hour are possible. East Bay valleys could see winds up to 45 miles per hour.
