Senate leaders agreed to hand over control of the committees to the Democrats two weeks after the party took control of the Chamber, the majority leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday.
The New York Democrat has reached an agreement with minority leaders Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., How to Share Power in a 50-50 Split of the Senate. The two argued for weeks over the structuring of Senate rules, leaving Republicans technically in control of the committees that decide when to proceed with nominations and laws.
