S.F., Santa Clara counties tighten rules amid alarming coronavirus surge

As coronavirus cases continued climbing alarmingly, two more Bay Area counties — San Francisco and San Mateo — entered into the state’s most restrictive reopening tier, purple, which will cause the shutdown of most remaining indoor activities on Sunday and place residents under a curfew starting Monday night.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara County, which is already in the purple tier, announced new restrictions starting Sunday that go even further than the state’s rules. That included a quarantine for returning travelers, extremely strict indoor capacity limits for stores and an effective ban on San Francisco 49ers games at Levi’s…
