Man arrested at Washington checkpoint with pistol and 500 rounds of ammunition, police say.

The US Capitol Police arrested a man Friday after arriving at a security checkpoint in Washington with an unregistered pistol and over 500 rounds of ammunition. This comes from a report by the city’s Metropolitan Police Department.
Wesley A. Beeler, of Front Royal, Virginia, was charged with five crimes, including illegal possession of a gun and ammunition, according to the report.
Mr. Beeler had driven to a security checkpoint on E Street NE in Washington, where officials found he had a Glock pistol, 509 rounds for the pistol, and 21 shotgun shells, the report said. This street leads to an area just a few blocks from the US Capitol Police headquarters and the Capitol itself.
