Becerra says decisions about reopening schools are “a local problem”.
By Paige Winfield Cunningham
Stressing that school reopening decisions are a local issue, Becerra asked Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) whether it is safe to place students in a classroom three feet apart instead of six feet.
“Despite these very credible alternative views from health professionals, won’t this 6-foot recommendation prevent many schools from learning full-time face-to-face again this year?” Collins asked Becerra during the HHS candidate’s hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
“I’ll tell you what I think is the best approach and that is that the science leads us and the experts tell us when it is safe.”
