Insufficient Preliminary Investigation Evidence for Ashli Babbitt Death Charges: Reports
Washington, DC police say they haven’t found enough evidence to indict the Capitol Police officer who shot and killed a rioter in the building on Jan. 6. This is evident from several reports.
However, authorities warned that the investigation into the incident was still ongoing and prosecutors were not advised whether to bring charges against the unidentified officer.
Ashli Babbitt, 35, died after being shot dead by the police as she climbed through a broken window into the speakers’ lobby in the Capitol during the siege. The incident was videotaped and widely circulated.
A DC Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said “it would be premature” for the department to “comment that a conclusion has been reached.”
