Illinois COVID Update: IL Reports 1,884 New Coronavirus Cases, 32 Deaths;  United Center hosts mass vaccination site: Sources

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan expands eligibility for Phase 1B Thursday, but the Chicago area health departments are holding on to expansion until enough doses are available.

With the state’s soaring vaccine supply, federal, state and local officials are slated to announce on Friday that the United Center’s bulk vaccine facility will open on March 10, multiple sources told ABC 7.

Since the Bulls and Blackhawks are still playing at the United Center, the arena itself is not used. Instead, the parking spaces are used for drive-through and inspection vaccinations.

FEMA and the Department of Defense will take the lead in running the site, with an emphasis on vaccinating minorities who have received doses relatively slowly.
