House to Vote on Bill to Protect LGBTQ Americans
WASHINGTON – The house on Thursday is going to sweep legislation Prohibits discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, although there is an uncertain future in the Senate.
The Equality Act would change existing federal civil rights laws to expand protection for LGBTQ Americans, which Democratic lawmakers and advocates say would make significant strides toward legal protection for all Americans. It is one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities in legislation.
Rep. David Cicilline, DR.I., who has presented versions of the bill at every session of Congress since 2015, said he was “excited” to see the likely passage of the bill in the House.
