The final vote took place between 224 and 206. Three Republicans voted for the bill alongside the Democrats. Reps John Katko, Tom Reed and Brian Fitzpatrick voted with the Democrats on that vote, including when the 2019 legislation passed in House. When the bill passed in 2019, eight Republicans joined the Democrats to vote for the legislation.

Proponents of the LGTBQ community argue that the legislation will help protect people in states where it is legal to discriminate against people and that the law is long overdue.

The house passed first the Equal Opportunities Act in 2019, but now its passage comes under Democratic scrutiny, with President Joe Biden in the White House and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announcing Thursday that he already intends to take the floor.
