Coronavirus infection results in immunity comparable to a COVID-19 vaccine
One of the lingering questions of the COVID-19 pandemic is how much immunity people have after recovering from coronavirus infection. New research suggests that the level of protection is the same comparable to a vaccine – At least for a few months.
Among a group of hundreds of thousands of Americans who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection, the risk of developing subsequent infection more than three months later was about 90% lower than that of people who were not previously infected and therefore infected had no immunity to the virus, according to researchers at the National Cancer Institute.
