Chinese government rejects WHO plan for second phase of Covid-19 origin study
Zeng Yixin, deputy head of the National Health Commission, said at a press conference in Beijing that he was “surprised” that the laboratory leak was listed as a research target in the second phase of the investigation.
“In some respects, the WHO’s plan for the next phase of investigating the origin of the coronavirus does not respect common sense and is against science. It is impossible for us to accept such a plan, ”he said.
Zeng also appeared to be responding to claims by the US State Department that several employees at the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill shortly before the first documented cases of Covid-19, saying “no WIV employee or researcher was infected with coronavirus”.
