Biden throws Trump’s classic architectural order
The executive order, which was signed in the final moments of the Trump presidency, was instantly condemned as aesthetically myopic by architects, even though it featured relatively weak enforcement. The Order preferred only classical styles in future buildings and did not directly prohibit brutalism.
“While we’re appalled by the administration’s decision to move forward with the design mandate, we’re glad the contract doesn’t go as far as previously thought,” said Robert Ivy, CEO of the American Institute of Architects, in a statement on the time.
