president Joe Biden plans to mark the milestone of 500,000 Americans killed by the COVID-19 virus with a somber ceremony on Monday evening at the White House.
First lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff will attend a candlelight ceremony with Biden in the south porch of the White House at sunset, followed by a moment of silence. Biden will also make comments to think about the tragedy beforehand.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced that Biden will also order flags for five days to be flown on all federal properties with half-staff.
