Biden makes renewed efforts to end the civil war in Yemen and stops “offensive” aid to Saudis, Naming Envoy
WASHINGTON – President Biden has launched a new initiative to end that six years of civil war in YemenAppointment of a personal envoy for the peace effort and an end to be announced for remaining US offensive support for the Saudi Arabia led military campaign there.
In his first major foreign policy address as President, Mr Biden said he would appoint Timothy Lenderking, a professional diplomat with extensive experience in Gulf and Yemen affairs, to advance peace talks to end the war that plunged Yemen into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
Speaking at the State Department, the president also said US support for offensive operations in Yemen would end, “including relevant arms sales”. He added that the war caused “a humanitarian and strategic disaster”.
