An American is said to have been kidnapped in Jamaica. The authorities say it was a lie.
Authorities in Jamaica have asked the public to stop sharing social media posts alleging that an American woman was abducted there and stated on Sunday that she was “in no danger or at any time”.
The woman, Kalina Collier, had tested positive for the coronavirus upon arrival in Jamaica and was isolated according to the country’s Covid-19 prevention protocols. Jamaican authorities said.
Police visited her on Saturday and found that “she is neither in danger nor has she been in danger at any time,” the Jamaica Constabulary Force said in a statement on Sunday.
Authorities warn people not to “not share any social media post claiming Collier was kidnapped,” adding that sharing false information may be a criminal offense, according to the statement.
