Self-isolating guests boast they can leave their rooms to smoke ‘whenever they want’

Self-isolating guests at a UK hotel have claimed they are allowed to leave their rooms to smoke cigarettes whenever they want as the new airport quarantine scheme descends into chaos in its first 48 hours. 

Businessman Wayne Kelly, who is quarantining for ten days at the Radisson Blu hotel at Heathrow, told how he was escorted from his room outside for a cigarette by security guards – some of whom were wearing masks beneath their nose. 

A second quarantine guest at the Holiday Inn was seen puffing on a cigarette as he spoke on his mobile phone for around 20 minutes as a security guard watched over him.

Guests are not allowed to smoke in their rooms or permitted to leave them for any reason during the ten-day quarantine period – other than a medical emergency – under the existing…
