Number of weekly deaths in England and Wales drops by nearly 2,000 – ONS

The number of people dying weekly in England and Wales has dropped by almost 2,000, provisional figures from the Office for National Statistics show, reflecting a fall in fatalities involving coronavirus.

Data revealed by the ONS shows 15,354 people died across the two nations in the week ending 12 February.

This was 1,838 fewer deaths than the previous week – but still, 3,429 (28%) higher than the five-year average for that week.
