Almost two thirds of Scots would support a second national lockdown if coronavirus cases continue to rise, according to a new poll.

A study carried out by  YouGov  spoke to 2,690 people across the UK about a possible return to restrictions seen over March, April and May.

Nicola Sturgeon hinted new national lockdown restrictions could be imposed if local measures fail to stop the growing number of Covid cases in Scotland.

Seven councils in the Greater Glasgow area currently have bans on social gatherings indoors but the SNP leader suggested similar rules could be rolled out elsewhere.

Meanwhile partying university students face being given the boot from their accommodation after cops were called to break up several “illegal gatherings”.
