A former Calgary teacher accused of sexually exploiting six junior high students about two decades ago has been found dead.

A source confirmed the body of Michael Gregory, 57, of De Winton was discovered on Vancouver Island on Monday.

City police say his death isn’t considered criminal and is non-accidental.

Last week, police announced Gregory had been charged with 11 counts of sexual exploitation and five counts of sexual assault related to crimes he allegedly committed as a teacher at John Ware junior high school.

The allegations came to light last September when a woman who was a student at the school reported she’d been sexually abused by the man during a 2001 canoe trip not sanctioned by the school.
