Growing concern for children in Queensland’s COVID-19 hotspots

There is growing concern for children in Queensland’s south-east as the highly-contagious COVID-19 Delta variant spreads among younger people.

The Queensland Children’s Hospital is now on standby in case an infected child becomes seriously unwell.

One of the children infected with the virus spent six days in the community, potentially spreading it even further.

More cases are likely to emerge as a result. In response, the Eight Mile Plains COVID-19 testing clinic will become a 24-hour centre from this morning when it opens at 7am.

It’s hoped the community will come forward in record numbers to get tested in response to the worsening emergency.
