Enhanced jobless benefits expired overnight: Here’s where Congress’ negotiations stand

Talks will continue this morning with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set to host a meeting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at 9 a.m. ET in the Speaker’s office with the lead negotiators for the Trump administration, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, according to an aide and a source familiar with the plans for the meeting.

The federal enhanced benefit program was set up to provide an additional $600 a week to individuals receiving regular state unemployment benefits and was meant as an added boost to help blunt the economic fallout from the pandemic.
