NSW to ease COVID-19 restrictions from Friday, Gladys Berejiklian says
Sydneysiders will only have to wear masks in one circumstance under new coronavirus rules to be implemented on Friday, the NSW Premier said.
Starting just after midnight, the greater Sydney area, including Wollongong, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains, will be under new, more relaxed restrictions.
Venues will only have to make room for one person per two square metres, instead of four square metres. That will go for all venues except gyms.
Weddings and funerals will still only be allowed to admit 300 people.
Masks won’t be mandatory in hair and beauty premises, at weddings, funerals and religious services or gaming areas anymore. Instead they will be strongly encouraged.
Hospitality staff will also be able to take their face coverings off.
However, on public transport they will still be a must.
“We want to continue to give the community and businesses the confidence to move forward, especially with the expansion of the two square metre rule which will allow most venues to double their capacity,” Ms Berejiklian said.
