Coronavirus live updates: Victorians are bracing for possibility of tougher COVID-19 restrictions, as concern grows about an increase in mys…
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews was yesterday asked when we’d find out what’s next for the state.
He said he and his team would make announcements as soon as they possibly can.
“We’ve got numbers that are too high, we’ve got every reason to believe that these current settings will not get the job done, that we’ll need to do more,” he said.
Mr Andrews reiterated that the restrictions in Victoria may be tightened.
“You can rest assured… we’re thinking through all of those issues,” he said.
Decisions on any further measures would not be taken lightly, he said, because they would come at significant cost.
“Numbers are too high and there is a growing case for us to do more,” he said.
He said what Victoria had done so far had prevented the state from dealing with thousands and thousands of new cases but “what we may be doing now may not be enough”.
“We can’t open up again at these sorts of levels and therefore there’s very detailed work being done about what possible next steps might look like,” he said.
He was asked if he had been briefing some businesses and the transport industry that changes could be coming from August 3.
He refused to comment on that.
“We have all sorts of different discussions with peak bodies … with people across all sorts of settings,” he said.
